Aside from that, the immediate danger is that trans fat will cause you go become quite overweight if you eat enough of it. Obesity leads to its own problems, including diabetes and heart disease.

In spite of these dangers, avoiding foods with trans fat is easy to do. For starters, when you cook, use olive oil. Don’t eat any fried foods, especially in restaurants. Is Your Subconscious Mind Helping You Lose Weight?

What are you telling your subconscious now? It’s extremely important that you phrase your affirmation to lose weight as if you have already accomplished what you desire. Work on writing it out until you have it precisely as you wish to become.

At first you will feel awkward and uncomfortable and you may not feel or believe what you are saying. You may feel silly saying them out loud. It doesn’t matter. Continue to speak the affirmations aloud with as much conviction as you can muster. Try using driving time in your car for firm, strong voiced self talk. It’s taken a long time to train your subconscious to use negative self talk. If you will persevere with speaking your affirmations aloud, firmly and confidently, you will be amazed at how quickly you can turn your thoughts around.

You didn’t hop on a bicycle the first time and just take off down the street. It took practice to train your body to balance on those two wheels. This will take some practice as well. Continue to repeat your affirmations aloud, several times a day for the next 30 days and you will be amazed at how much you change your thinking and attitude.

Let’s investigate how words affect you in your everyday life. Take a trip down memory lane and recall some real life experiences that made you happy, proud, and successful or any combination of the three.

Spend some time recalling how you felt. Maybe you won a spelling bee as a child, or hit a home run. Who was there? This will help you remember. You had those feelings once and you can achieve them again. What words did others use while you were experiencing those feelings of joy and happiness?

Recall those words, and write them down. Then, put them to work in your daily conversations. They are words that are already proven to have a positive affect on your well being. Recalling and including them in your day will trigger those feelings again because your subconscious already has an association with those words and their results. Above all, take action. If you have become a slave of procrastination, decide to rid your life of it once and for all. Yes, you can create affirmations to help you there as well. “I have the attitude and skills to take action today.” “I am winning in my life by turning my attitude into action.”

Do nothing and nothing gets done. Do something and many things are placed in motion. Regardless of what you are doing in life, you need to take action. Do something every day to put your plan in motion.

Mom Tricked My Dad Into Losing Weight

My mother is gifted with extraordinary culinary talents. We love her cooking as much as we love they way she takes good care of all of us.

This might have been the reason why my father has grown huge over the years, especially around the tummy.

Recently, I have observed that although my daid still earts voraciously, he is gradually losing that extra bulge. I asked my mom about it and she just smiled. Over a cup of coffee, she shared with me her secrets. I would like to share it with you , too.

Mom said that dad needs to lose weight as he is into his mid-life age wherein diseases like diabetes, arthritis, stroke, and cancer are lurking around the corner and ready to strike upon a person who is not diet conscious. So she made changes on his diet without him knowing it. She also encouraged my dad to join her in some physical activities on weekends.

Mom began using wholegrain in her baking instead of white bread. According to her, wholegrain bread contains more fiber which makes him full for a longer time. He cuts back on his calories.

Whenever my father takes her to dine at restaurants, mother said she eats all the pre-dinner rolls without my father noticing it. If she can’t help it, she would request the waiter to exchange the butter with vinegar and olive oil.

Since my father is fond of bringing a sandwich to work, she prepares it without the bread. Dad loves lettuce so she makes this the sandwich base rather than bread. She fills it up with slices of tomato, cucumber (with the skin on), celery and mix it with slices of either apple, mango, or avocado or whatever is in season. When he requests for meat, my mom uses chicken meat without the skin. If dad insists on having bread, and sometimes he gets away with it, mother used wholegrain bread.

On weekends, mom would request dad to help her in the garden. She would pretend to be in pain in the arm, or back, so she could ask him to weed grass or dig soil or just plain relocations of flower pots, and even mowing. These sort of let him burn lots of calories and are good for emotional and physical health.

Oftentimes, my mom encourages my dad to play basketball with my youngest brother or badminton with my younger sister, or play tennis with me. All that and more, dad burns a lot of calories by playing the sports.

Engaing in physical sports or taking regular exercises and taking proper diets have enormously helped my dad to lose weight. He was able to manage the pressure and stress at work. According to mom, stress causes production of hormone cortisol which forms fats and round the belly and risk of heart disease. Branding Mindfulness – Losing the Labels

I’ve been fielding some
interesting emails on the topic
of what I refer to as
“engaged mindfulness”–using
your awareness as a way of
connecting and helping others.

I cheerfully “stole” it from the
concept of “socially engaged
Buddhism”–which is essentially
the same thing but with a Buddhist
label on it and a few Buddhist
terms of engagement.

I love the idea of taking what
we learn about ourselves, our
responses, and our world and
then getting out there to engage
more meaningfully and with
greater intention and awareness.

But does mindfulness have to
be branded? Can it stand on
its own without the Buddhist
package?

I think so. I don’t believe that
mindfulness NEEDS a label.
Isn’t awareness a pretty
pure thing? Do we need to
attach it to something? And
isn’t it ironic that it seems to
be attached to Buddhism, which
has as its core principle the
concept that attachment leads
to suffering?

Of course, it doesn’t matter in
the slightest if you call it
“engaged mindfulness” or
anything else. Being intentional?
Doing good deeds? Digging in?
Giving back? Paying it forward?
Workin’ it?

When it comes to simply learning
more about yourself and offering
your best to others, the language
doesn’t matter. Use whatever
suits you.

Just as the Buddhists don’t
own the trademark on “mindfulness”
or “compassion”, the Christians
haven’t got exclusive rights to
“service” or “charity”.
And the association of
Islam with “fanaticism” is an
unfortunate pairing of a religion
with one of the most basic human
traits–intolerance.

Muslims don’t own intolerance–
it’s in all of us. Read your local
newspaper or simply attend
any major sports event to witness
how riled we can get whenever
we’ve got an us-vs.-them
mentality. We all have the
capacity for extremism and we
need to take responsibility for
our own intolerance.

Simplicity.
Compassion.
Generosity.
Tolerance.

In a brand-conscious culture like
ours, it’s funny how often we
label our most basic qualities
and pair them with religions,
political parties, or even
possessions without really
thinking about it.

Here’s an idea: go generic.

Want to be compassionate?
Great! Do it–and don’t waste a
minute shopping for the best
compassion t-shirt to wear.
Want to be mindful? Cool!
Do it–without hunting for a
guru, a retreat, or a
particular brand of awareness.
Feeling intolerant? You’re
human. See it, and find a way
to dissolve it.

Listen, if the Buddhist or
Christian or Islam (or any other)
label helps you become your best
in a way that feels authentic to you,
that’s great. But if you’ve been
shopping and just can’t find the
right brand of basic human
goodness, consider going generic.

Just be mindful, compassionate,
and generous. Period.

And share your own unique brand
of it with the world.

A Truly Effective Yogic Relaxation Technique

Lie on your back on the floor with your arms placed naturally by you side, your palms uppermost and fingers relaxed. Have your legs about shoulder width apart. You may place a folded small towel beneath your head, but nothing more comfortable than that.

Now some people, especially beginners, tend go to sleep very quickly in this position and that is not what we are seeking to do. If this happens to you, adopt the following position instead: Be seated in a straight-backed chair with your hands on your thighs or knees. Sit up straight and make sure that your feet are comfortably flat on the floor. Also be certain that each side of your body is positioned identically. In other words place the hands identically with the finger spread being the same on each hand; ensure that the feet placed symmetrically.

So now, in either your lying or seated position, close you eyes.

Now, take your mind to your right thumb. Visualize it. Ensure that it is relaxed. Move it if necessary. Take your mind now to you right index finger; again, visualize it and make sure that it is relaxed. Move to the middle finger, then the ring finger and then the little finger. Move your mind now to the back of your right hand, your right wrist, your right forearm, your right upper arm. Be sure that you are visualizing each part and ensuring that it is completely relaxed. Move your visualization now to the right shoulder, the right armpit, the right side of the body, the right hip, the right knee, the right calf, the right ankle, the soul of the right foot, the right big toe, second toe, third toe, fourth toe, little toe.

Take your mind now to your left thumb, left forefinger… and so on around the left side of your body to the left little toe.

Visualize now and ensure relaxation of the left buttock, the right buttock, the small of the back, the spinal column, the right shoulder blade, the left shoulder blade, the area between the shoulder blades, the tops of the shoulders and back and sides of the neck, the back of the head, the right ear, the left ear, the right temple, the left temple.

Pause here and imagine that the feeling of relaxation that you are now experiencing is flowing through your temples into your mind. Feel your mind as being totally relaxed; totally at ease. Tell yourself that It is that way because of the relaxation flowing into it. Savor this experience for a little while and then move your consciousness to the top of your head, your forehead, your right eyebrow, left eyebrow, right eye, left eye, the nose, the nose tip, the upper lip, the lower lip,(at this juncture ensure that the bottom jaw is totally relaxed, with the teeth a barely touching it at all)… and then on to the chin, neck, right side of chest, left side of chest, abdomen and then… the right leg, the left leg, the right arm, the left arm, the trunk, the head, your whole body… your whole body…your whole body.

(This may sound complicated in the reading, but in practice, because the parts are in sequence, there is no difficulty in running the visualization from one part of the body to the next and so on. It is an old Yoga technique that has been practiced for thousands of years and it is its very simplicity that underpins it historical success).

By now you are probably feeling very relaxed… almost divorced from the real world. (If you do not, don’t be concerned. Simply go through the procedure again)

Now is the time to begin to visualize places of great contentment, beauty and peace that you have experienced during your lifetime. Perhaps a lake, or a beach, a forest, a running stream, a sunset, the glory of the stars. Feel the cold of the water or snow; feel the warmth of the noonday, smell the forest, smell the grasslands, listen to the insects, the call of the birds; see the sky, see the clouds…

Do this for what appears quite a long time… five or ten minutes. Then let your imagination rest. Just visualize nothing at all. Stay like this for as long as you can. You will feel totally at peace. You may even feel so peaceful and contented that you’d like to stay this was forever! Many people feel that way and are quite reluctant to return to a wakeful state. But all good things come to an end—even successful meditations and in meditation, it is easy to loose track of time. Some people set a quiet alarm that rings after about 45 minutes or an hour. You may want to do the same. Whatever, when it comes time to go back to the everyday, do so slowly. With your eyes still closed, raise your arms above your head and drop them down to your sides again. Move your bottom jaw. Move your legs and then slowly open your eyes. Wow! You’re back in the real world!

Follow this technique every day for at least half an hour—preferably an hour. You’ll be amazed at what it does for you. You’ll be more relaxed; more confident; more alive! The real world will become a much, much better place in which to be. Who knows, you may even take up yoga and reap even more rewards!

Bone Calcium Deposits – What are Bone Calcium Deposits?

About 98% of calcium in our body is found in the bones. The remaining is absorbed by the blood to perform various functions of the body including digestion, proper pumping of blood and cell division. When calcium is not properly absorbed by the blood it gets deposited in tissues and other organs where it is not needed.

These deposits are sometimes referred to as bone calcium deposits because when blood does not receive adequate quantities of calcium from food, it starts robbing calcium found in the bones. Bone spurs and osteoporosis occur as a direct consequence of this activity. Women above the age of 40 are most likely victims of these diseases.

In addition to osteoporosis bone calcium deposits may also cause cancer, heart disease and many degenerative diseases.

How to Control Bone Calcium Deposits?
