Hoodia

Posted by admin On July - 31 - 2008

The Kalahari Desert is a harsh desert, but biologically a very active one. South Africa, Angola, Namibia and Botswana border the desert. The native tribe, known as San or Bushman by the white South Africans, is one of the oldest living tribes in the world, may be as old as 100,000 years. Even then, they do not live a settled life with agriculture or animals rearing. They are pure hunter-gatherers. They were hunted down by the white settlers of South Africa as a nuisance, and as late as the early part of 20th century, there were hunting parties organized to exterminate them.

When the San go on long hunting trips following the game, they eat a cactus-like plant and they do not feel hunger or thirst for a long period. They called it Xhoba. South Africa’s government research organization, CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research), in a routine investigation tested this plant and found that this indeed blocked the sense of hunger and gave a feeling of fullness to the stomach.

Hoodia is the name of the plant, and it is not a cactus but a succulent in the family of Asclepiadaceae. It is multi-stemmed (about 18 inches high, averaging ten tentacles), looks like a long cucumber with spikes, smells unpleasant, and has purple disc-shaped flowers of three to four inches in diameter. It is bitter tasting and grayish brown in color.

CSIR scientists isolated the active ingredient, which gave the feelings of fullness when consumed. It is a molecule that they named P 57. There are about twenty varieties of Hoodia, but only one of them is Xhoba, with the ingredient P 57. This is Hoodia Gordoni. In 1776 Col. R. J. Gordon, while exploring the Orange River, found this plant and recorded it. It is named after him as Hoodia Gordoni. It is also called Queen of Namibia and African hats.

Medication made from this plant is one of the hottest products in the market for weight-reducing treatments.

How To Choose The Best Body Detox Program For You

Posted by admin On July - 31 - 2008

Every year, right before summer, women’s magazines, television, newspapers, radio and the internet start their bombardment. It’s a massive attack of a well-trained army. The troops release their ammunition. And we are the target, girls! Yes, they want us to choose the best new diet program out there (and there is a multitude of them…) and to start to get slimmer as quickly as possible. Well, I already decided long ago on a special body detox program but I can’t help being curious about all those new diet trends. I’m always reading up on them, doing my research. But I always come to the same conclusion: the body detox program is the best choice for me.

Why? Let me explain: detoxification, more commonly referred to as detox, is the basic removal of toxic substances that accumulate in the human body. When I say
substances I mean all those toxins found in the processed food you’ve been eating. All the chemicals that fruits and vegetables have been fertilized with. All the fat your body has been accumulating for years. Even the pollution your system has absorbed can be cleaned out through this plan.

The Body Detox program is a program that involves consuming only certain foods and liquids during a specific period of time, which gives the body a chance to rid itself of its accumulated toxins and contaminants. A detox diet can improve your health by ridding your body of toxins that can cause health problems.

Sure, you’ll lose weight going through a detox diet, but that’s not the main goal. The body detox program is a special diet for cleansing your system, reeducating your eating habits and changing your outlook. Following the detox program, you’ll soon notice some changes in your life. The cleansing will help improve circulation, which can also improve your concentration. Digestion will be regulated and your skin may also clear up. Once the toxins in the body are completely cleaned out, the entire system will be affected and healthier.

You can find lots of different body detox programs out there, and they all have their benefits, but you should choose one that yields sustainable results. One that won’t frustrate you by making you feel better for a little while but returning you to that old lack of energy within a month. Your health success is dependent on the quality of the information you get, along with how you put that information into practical use, so decide on a program that betters your health in the long run, like mine did. Choose a body detox program that will break the toxic cycle.

Wrinkles – All About Wrinkles And How To Avoid Them

Posted by admin On July - 31 - 2008

Many of us do not realize the changes that are taking place on our body and face. Sometimes we look at our old photographs and realize how much we have changed. Age brings changes. We don’t realize them because we see ourselves everyday. When you meet a friend after many years, both of you may utter at the same time – how much have you changed! That is aging. To keep yourself looking young, you have to fight wrinkles everyday, so that next time when you meet someone after many years, they will exclaim- you have not changed at all.

How do wrinkles form? What are the ways to avoid wrinkles and what to do about wrinkles that cannot be stopped? How to maintain the youth? Let us find out.

Wrinkles- how do they form?

As you know, our skin is made of three layers – the epidermis, the dermis and the underlying fat layer. As we grow, the skin deteriorates and loses its youth because of genetic programming. This programming also makes our hair white and makes our teeth fall as we age. We cannot stop this genetic change. Sun damage takes toll of the skin and the skin ages much faster because of that. Two persons of same age may have skin with different aging. One who has moved around in the sun freely will show much more damage on the skin compared to one who has protected his/her skin from sun.
In the next part we will find out more about wrinkles formation and treatment.

How To Prevent Or Get Rid Of Halitosis-Bad Breath

Posted by admin On July - 31 - 2008

Have you ever thought about the breath that comes out of you and what it does to the other person? The mouth has an acceptable odor. But malodor occurs when you allow bacteria to make home on the surface and back of your tongue, below the gum line and in between teeth, because of poor oral hygiene.

Halitosis or bad breath has robbed many people of their social standing and curtailed their ability to take advantage of opportunities. Because their breath puts people off. Bad breath is at its worse in socials. Think what will happen if you did not know that you had bad breath and you tried to kiss your date, at that crucial moment of establishing intimacy, and she pulls away, disgusted?

Ah sure, you will be bewildered as to why she behaved that way. In 99% of such instances she will not tell you why and you will not see her again, she will shun your overtures and put paid to the budding relationship. No one will conveniently put up with mouth odor from you. If they have no choice, they despise you secretly.

Oral health depends greatly on personal habit. How often do you brush and floss? Do you scrape your tongue to clean out food deposit that accumulates on it? Eating and allowing food particles to decay in the different hard to access spaces in between teeth, on your tongue and gums will eventually cause Halitosis causing bacteria to develop, multiply and make you an out cast. Because anyone who listens to whatever you have to say gets turned off the moment you open your mouth.

So what will you do to get rid of your bad breath?

Chlorine dioxide toothpaste is the main oral health care product that you should use to fight HalitosisWash your mouth and gargle thrice daily with chlorine dioxide mouthwash or oral rinses too.Keep your tongue clean by using a tongue scraper twice daily to remove food residue coatings overtaking your tongue.Get professional advice online or find an offline Professional to give your mouth cavity thorough cleaningDrink 8 cups of water daily

Prevention ranks higher than cure in health care, take good care of your mouth and all that is in it. Proper oral hygiene such as brushing at least twice a day, flossing daily, cleaning your tongue and gums daily will keep out Halitosis causing bacteria. All you need to prevent or get rid of Bad breath are available online at prices you can afford.

4 Things That Are Taking Your Health From You

Posted by admin On July - 30 - 2008

Be sure that you are sitting down when you read this report because you will be shocked by the truth!
Your health is being taken from you day by day, meal by meal, and only YOU can take back your health!

Don’t allow yourself to be overcome by sickness and dis-ease and not be able to enjoy your love ones.
Take back YOUR health NOW!

You are probably saying by now, “How is my health being taken from me?” Well you will get the answer to this question on your own as you see the truth I am about to reveal.

This way when you see it, you prove it to yourself and seeing it for yourself will convince and convict
you. It is YOUR own convincing that will cause you to act on YOUR own behalf to take back your health NOW!

Ask yourself this question: what do I feed my body…

* Live organic nutrition that regenerates and replenishes my cells?

* Dead cooked foods that destroy my cells and cannot regenerate them?

Remember this: You have the power to promote health or promote sickness and dis-ease in your body based
on what you eat. The choice is up to you!

1. Your Current Diet

Your diet (everything you digest) is the determining factor whether you will have good or bad health,
sickness or wellness. All of these degenerative dis-eases, such as diabetes, cancers, heart, ulcers,
kidney, liver, colon, lung, etc. can be related to ‘organic mal-nutrition’ in the diet.

If your diet is based on the Standard American Diet (SAD) you are probably experiencing obesity, sickness
or dis-ease; if not, you will one day, if you continue on this diet of mostly cooked (dead) and processed
devitalized foods! You have the power to promote health or promote sickness and dis-ease in your body
based on what you eat.

2. Not Knowing How Your Body Works

Most people have no clue as to how their body works and without this knowledge it is all most impossible to know what it takes to have optimal health. Once you know your body organs, what they do, and what they need to work properly to thrive, you can work in accordance with your body rather than keep working against it.

This is why it is imperative that you provide your body with the organic nutrition it needs so it can operate properly. Your body can’t regenerate itself or maintain health with ‘inorganic’ food substances.

3. Not Feeding Your Cells Organic Nutrients

Your body can’t regenerate itself or maintain health with ‘inorganic’ food substances

4. Not Properly Moving Waste Matter From Your Body Systems

Your intestinal tract is the sewage system of your body and it must be cleaned and unclogged for you to be healthy. Today over 100 million people have digestive disorders. Digestive disorders are responsible for over 50 million physician visits a year and more hospitalizations than any other category of medical problems in the U.S. today. The cost is well over $100 billion dollars a year!

This is all because people keep filling their bellies with dead-cooked and processed foods that clog up the colon and cause a condition for dis-ease in the body. What people and many doctors don’t realize is that in most cases one of the main causes of degenerative diseases are the poisonous, toxic, constipated unhealthy conditions in the colon along with overweight-ness and they are cased by unhealthy diets! COOKED AND PROCESSED FOODS ARE THE MAIN ENEMY TO YOUR BODY!

The Preventative Mind Set

Posted by admin On July - 30 - 2008

In spite of the advanced technology and abundance of information the quality of our health continues to decline. The exceptions are those who seek and use information to change their life style and eating habits to something that more resembles nature. Those who have made these changes are healthier than those that don’t.

It is all about the money. That’s why we now have more chemicals in the form of fertilizers and pesticides in our growing fields, and antibiotics and hormones in our dairy and milk products. They use what ever they can regardless of the effect it has on our body. The effect on the bottom line and escape from prosecution are the bench marks for the products they make.

In addition MSG, filler and flavor enhancers are distributed freely and hidden in many products. These ingredients will exacerbate our already existing allergies or create new ones. When we eat processed foods we weaken both our adrenal and immune systems. We can compromise our health to such a degree it is only a matter of time before we become very ill.

”Despite this gloomy picture, there is a bright side. Knowledge and information is constantly being brought forth from the Alternative health care field. This information continues to be substantiated by solid clinical and medical research. Understanding has emerged regarding the role of vitamins, minerals, and quality nutrition in health”. Allergy Free Eating, Key to the Future”
The Nutritional & Dietary Consultant/March 1994

We are learning that if we remove the toxins from our environment and our food and water we can prevent most of the illnesses we seem to be subject to. We understand that vitamins and minerals will help us maintain a good level of health; however we also know this is not enough.

To really go after health we must be in a preventative mind set and understand what it is that causes disease. A good place to gather some of that information is at www.drclarkuniversity.org this is an online alternative health site that will give you a host of information about the cause of disease, prevention of disease and ultimately the removal of disease. One excellent book that should be in everyone’s library is “The Cure for All Diseases”, by Dr. Hulda Clark. You can get this from the web site above or paste this link into your browser store.yahoo.com/drclarkuniversity/22101.html

And another and very important piece of the puzzle is the alkaline/acid relationship.
We can attribute a good deal of our health problems to too much acid in our system. We eat entirely too many acid producing foods such as red meat and grains. Aging is the accumulation of acidic wastes within our body. Eventually the acidic wastes in our system will cause aging and illness.

By drinking alkaline water which you can make using Alkalife, again go to www.drhuldaclark.org or store.yahoo.com/drclarkuniversity/alkalife1.html or by using Bicarb-balance, which is also at the above web site we can replace some of the bicarbonates that we lose as we age. This keeps our system in a more alkaline state. Disease cannot flourish in an alkaline environment. By using these products, following the suggestions in The Cure For All Diseases, and shopping at a whole foods market or PCC or somewhere that you can be reasonably assured that you are buying food and not well packaged poison we can live an energetic and healthy life.

Michele Michaels has been active in raising awareness for alternative and natural methods of curing and treating all manner of illnesses.

Constant Muscle Twitching and Benign Fasciculation

Posted by admin On July - 30 - 2008

BFS – also known as ‘muscle fasciculation syndrome’, ‘benign fasciculation’ and ‘fasciculation syndrome’ – is a disorder of the nervous system characterized by the uncontrolled twitching (fasciculation) of muscle groups in various parts of the body. It may or may not be associated with muscle cramps. Although it occurs more commonly in the muscles of the legs, arms and face, it can occur in any voluntary muscles, including those of the tongue. As its name suggests, it is a benign, somewhat irksome condition that, fortunately, does not progress to a more serious neurological disorder.

The fasciculation may be localized – a twitching eyelid for instance – or become far more extensive and involve several limbs or even the abdominal muscles. They may be either intermittent or continuous; in fact most people will experience a degree of BFS at sometime in their lives without realizing that they have this condition. For example, a simple facial ‘tic’ is a localized fasciculation.

However, most individuals will only be aware of the diagnosis of BFS when the symptoms become so widespread and persistent that they seek medical advice.

A more serious disease called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) – also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease also has muscle fasciculation as a dominant symptom. Although fasciculation is a feature of both BFS and ALS that of the former usually ceases when the affected muscle is exercised while the twitching in ALS patients persists whether the muscles are working or at rest. A diagnosis of BFS is usually made after a full neurological examination (including electromyography – EMG) has excluded other, more serious diseases.

Although the precise cause of BFS is unknown it may be associated with several factors including acute viral illnesses, exercise, anxiety or drugs. Some authorities have suggested that insecticides could also be a causative factor as muscle fasciculation is one of the prominent symptoms seen in organophosphate poisoning.

Exercise triggers muscle twitching in the majority of BFS patients that and is probably related to the higher than normal amounts of free radicals that are released by the body during prolonged exertion.

Free radicals are a by-product of the cell’s energy production therefore the longer and more intensely an individual exercises the more free radicals his body will produce. For this reason endurance athletes are subject to free radical overload and oxidative stress. If prolonged exercise is associated with BFS, in all likelihood the cause of the twitching is free radical-induced nerve and muscle excitability.

Although there are no recognized drugs for the treatment of BFS, anecdotal reports suggest that some individuals benefit from either pharmaceutical or natural sedatives. However no clinical trials have been done to show whether or not these products are more effective than placebos.

As prolonged physical activity produces large quantities of free radicals and exercise is such a strong precipitating factor for BFS, oxidative stress is almost certainly one of the underlying pathological factors contributing to this condition.

Therefore it is not surprising to find that there is reliable anecdotal evidence that antioxidant-rich food supplements are effective in treating this annoying, and often distressing, condition.

It is also possible that even those individuals who do not suffer from exercise induced BFS may be under oxidative stress for other reasons and could reduce their symptoms by increasing their daily antioxidant intake.

Dr Keith Scott is a medical doctor who used a spice supplement to cure himself of benign fasciculation syndrome (BFS). He has a special interest in nutrition and has written several books including the ground breaking, “Medicinal Seasonings, The Healing Power of Spices” and “Natural Home Pharmacy”.

In research published recently in The Lancet magazine, Professor David Nutt of Britain’s Bristol University found that alcohol and tobacco are more dangerous than some illegal drugs like marijuana or Ecstasy. This new landmark research proposes a new framework for the classification of harmful substances, based on the actual risks posed to society.

For the first time medical research now comes to loggerheads with the legal classification of dangerous drugs. Whilst alcohol and tobacco are still legally available, medical research and public opinion are now tipping the scales towards making these substances illegal.

Is it not ironic that each year around the world there are more deaths from booze and cigarettes, than there are from the so called illegal drugs all put together?

You can at this moment be pulled in for possession of marijuana and ecstasy, yet you can openly go out on the town, get blind drunk and tip your hat to the policeman on the way home!

Where’s the logic?

Alcohol ruins lives (not for all I will admit) and smoking saps the very life from the people who use it; long term it kills more people than die in auto accidents every year. Its effects fill the hospital wards, split families apart and cause so much social harm, that it makes you wonder just why it is allowed to be sold openly.

There are however economical and political implications and it is easy to see why keeping the masses subdued would be an advantage to any government with its head screwed on right. Add to this the unrest that would come from making brewery and tobacco factory workers unemployed, the catastrophic monetary loss from duty on these items and you start to get an idea of just what a hot potato this subject is.

Change will not come overnight; there is too much vested interest in it for any government to take the lead in implementing such policies. Change will only occur when society on the whole comprehends the dangers of these substances and starts to reject their use. Then and only then will its grasp on society be released, for then it will not be a viable commercial market.

So how can we play our part in pushing for this change?

I feel it will only come from setting an example that others will follow, we’ve seen it with tobacco, where now it is not socially acceptable to smoke in certain places. Alcohol however is still viewed as a right of passage and a release from the pounding of life, it has not yet got to that stage where it has lost its social cool. We still see Ads on TV and see the posters stuck to billboards the length and breadth of our countries. Unlike nicotine its still conceptualised as a normal thing to do, so entrenched in our traditions and social gatherings, its going to take a massive change in identity to make it unpopular.

In the mean time we are left with the fallout of what these socially acceptable drugs leave in their wake, the misery, the harm, the heartbreak. The only way forward is to see just how cigarettes have now become the bad boy of social habits, to smoke in certain places makes you a social outcast, it is now not socially acceptable. If we took this premise with alcohol just how long could it survive as an acceptable drug?

I foresee a day when the first legal actions are called against the breweries, just the same way it happened for the tobacco giants. The claimants won, it set a precedence and proved once and for all legally, that this substance caused harm.

Perhaps the day has come where we can personally become the pioneers of this change?

If Alcohol has affected you or your family in such a way, that you feel the time is right to help make a substantial change to your society; then make that conscious decision to take alcohol out of your life and set an example that others can follow. Your actions today, will make tomorrow a more promising place for all of us to be apart of.

Richard’s personal struggle with alcohol spanned a period of over thirty years, ending only when he chanced upon a highly innovative program that changed his life. His passionate style of writing now enables people all around the world, to discover a life without addiction. kudzu-cure.info kudzu-cure.info

Alzheimer’s Disease: The Changes in Your Loved One

Posted by admin On July - 29 - 2008

Alzheimer’s disease is not a death sentence such as the one that comes with cancer which can often be treated and for some even cured but its carries its own tragedy. For some relatives and friends it may even mean the end of that person’s life as they know them.

A possible reaction from relatives and friends

For example, my brother-in-law refused to accept this diagnosis for his mother then gradually, his visits were further apart. When she passed away, at her funeral, he said that in his mind and in his heart, because of how different at the end she was compared to her true personality, he considered her dead for the last few years. Both my husband’s heart and mine broke when we heard his statement. We both thought that despite the changes that occurred in her during her years of fighting this disease, she was still their caring and loving mother no matter what. She was a kind and generous person that deserved to be remembered as herself.

The changes observed in your loved one, at the beginning

When I first moved in with my husband and his mother, she was quite independent, especially since she had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease ten years earlier. Nonetheless, in the following 4 ½ years, her life, her skills and her abilities gradually disappeared as everyone, including herself, knew her before.

About three years before I moved in with them, her husband’s death accelerated the changes in her making it impossible for her to be on her own approximately two years later. That is when my husband moved back in with her. Financial institutions and utilities companies started to share their concerns about her forgetfulness and increasing confusion, which is when he took care of her finances.

Then, she was following her daily routine by getting ready to go to work and leave to take the bus despite the fact that she retired about a year earlier. My husband, had to sleep in the living room and could never afford to be in a deep sleep as he was always needing to keep an eye on her, stopping her from leaving the house and walking around who knows where. Every day, for approximately a year, it was the same thing, he had to convince her that she was not working anymore which was not easy as she was getting tenacious and emotional about it.

The changes, as time goes by

When I first moved in, I noticed that her short term memory was very poor so we had to watch that she would shut off the stove after she used it or to turn of the water when she was washing dishes. I also noticed that she was living mostly in the past, reminiscing often about stories from her childhood.

Then, she started to forget how to cook, not to feed the dog as often so we had to hide his food from her. She started to forget to take a shower, put on her nightgown or not fully understanding what we were saying to her. She also started to show signs of dementia. Instead of realizing that she was thinking, her thoughts appeared to her as the voice from her late husband. She became more frustrated gradually becoming even aggressive at times and screaming at the dryer as she thought it was the source of the voice. That is when my husband started to take care of the laundry for her.

When the changes are getting worse

As years flew by, the changes became more important and appeared more often. She would misunderstand how to do things. She was forgetting to eat, to go to the washroom, to shower and brush her teeth and would scratch off any scab to such an extent that we had to put bandages on her arms as they were raw and bloody.

She would also invent stories about innocent neighbors being bad according to her, getting upset with her dog and people around her for no reason and yelling and screaming for hours, depriving everyone of sleep, especially herself. That is when we discovered that as she lost her ability to speak and understand us, it became her way to tell us that she was in pain. A few days prior to her death, we found out that she had cancer.

My husband and I, particularly my husband, as her older son refused to get involved in her care, decided to care for her and to allow her to live as long as possible in her own house because we felt that she deserved that much. Alzheimer’s disease did not only take away her memories but also the joy of being a grandmother to her young grandson and from meeting her granddaughter. In my opinion, she is an angel in heaven who is finally free of the heavy chains of Alzheimer and cancer. After all, she was an angel on Earth to anyone who had the opportunity to get to know her.

Alzheimer’s disease affected my husband’s family and mine for years. This is the reason why I wish to share our experience with you so you do not feel alone and have an idea of possible changes to come in the future. 15 Quick Tips for People Who Don’t Like to Exercise

Posted by admin On July - 29 - 2008

We’ve all had days when we don’t have the energy to tie our athletic
shoes, let alone bounce around in them. But exercise can give a daily
blast to your mind, body, and soul.

Here are fifteen quick tips to get you moving:

1. Don’t get intimidated by the prospect of a daily exercise regimen.
You don’t have to run a marathon. You need only get your body moving
each day. Once you tone your muscles, you’ll naturally find yourself
wanting to do more challenging workouts.

2. Reframe the way you think about exercise. Begin to think of each
workout as a gift you give to yourself instead of just another
“should,” “ought,” or “must.”

3. Make sure you enjoy your exercise program. Some people like classes.
Some people don’t. Choose what’s right for you so it becomes something
you actually look forward to.

4. Make sure your workout is convenient. Schedule it for a time of day
when you typically feel the most energetic. Have your gym bag packed
and ready to go by the door or in the car.

5. Make your workout weather-proof. If you run or walk outside, get the
right workout gear so weather conditions are never an excuse.

6. Make sure you’re doing it right. One reason for wanting to quit
exercising is injury or pain. Check with your doctor before you start
an exercise program so you know you’re safe in the workout you choose.
And check in with trainers, too, if you’re working on equipment at the
gym or trying a new sport.

7. If you’re having a low-energy day, tell yourself you have to
exercise for only ten minutes. That will get you moving, and once
you’re in the exercise groove, you’ll usually want to finish your
workout.

8. Go with friends. Start a group for walking, running, or training.
The camaraderie (and peer pressure) can do wonders for your daily
motivation.

9. After a really good workout, write a few notes in your journal about
how good you feel. Use it as a reference the next time you don’t want to
begin.

10. Start with small goals. If you want to run for 30 minutes, for
example, start by walking fast. When you can do that, make a goal to
spend those 30 minutes running for one minute, walking for one minute.
When you build on these smaller goals, you’ll be running in no time.
And you’ll give your confidence a boost, too.

11. Recognize that some days it will be easier to exercise, and some days
you’ll have to struggle through the workout. This has to do with a lot of
factors, including mood, hormones, the glass of wine you had last night…
Take the pressure off by understanding the fluctations. And exercise
anyway.

12. Try behavior modification tapes. Mike Brescia has a good one for
exercising here: momscape.com/thinkrightnow/exercising.htm
This audiotape is not self-hypnotizing or subliminal. You’ll hear every
message, but these messages are subtle and, for many people, effective.

13. Use a visible reward system. The effects of exercise are cumulative
and long-term, so sometimes it helps to see your results on a daily
basis. After each workout, put a big red star on the calendar as a symbol
that you completed the day’s workout. Take photos of yourself every month
in your workout gear so you have a visual record of your results, too.

14. Get to the bottom of your exercise aversion. For women, if it’s the
run-of-the-mill gym you can’t stand, try a women-oriented fitness center,
such as Curves. This is a fast-growing fitness phenomenon, and many
women feel like their workout becomes a 30-minute vacation–like a girls’
night out at the exercise machines.

15. Be gentle with yourself. Take a day off at least once a week. And if
you do skip a few workouts, don’t beat yourself up, but do get right back
in the routine. The fewer consecutive days you skip, the more likely
you’ll be to make your workout a lasting gift you give to yourself.
