There are many causes of thinning hair in women. Some of them include genetic predisposition, health problems, medications, stress and trauma, poor diet, over processing your hair.

The best approach to stop thinning hair in women is to discover the source of the problem. Here are some general tips for reversing thinning hair:

- Use hair care products particularly designed to add volume to your hair.

- Use hair restorative shampoos and conditioners because they reduce the occurrence of thinning hair.

- You can try permanent or semi-permanent color to give body and volume to your hair.

- Avoid hair products that include alcohol.

- Use styling products in moderation because too much will weigh your hair down.

If you are like millions of people, you probably have experienced problems with dry skin before. Perhaps you are dealing with this on a regular basis, and desperately seeking some relief. Your answer may be sitting in your refrigerator or on the counter of your very own kitchen. It is called the banana.

A Recipe that is Very A-peeling

This natural skin care recipe uses two bananas: Take two bananas and place them in a bowl. Next use a spoon to mash them into a smooth texture. This can be applied to your face and left on for approximately ten minutes. If you like, you can also add a little bit of honey to your smooth banana mixture to give it a little more power as well. After ten minutes rinse your face thoroughly with some clean water, and notice how wonderfully soft and supple your skin feels. Don’t throw out the leftovers… If you do not use the entire mixture at once, refrigerate for up to one week and use again for additional applications.

Normal Skin Care Recipe

If you have normal skin you may want to give it some nice treatments as well. It is extremely important to never take normal skin for granted. Again, you can find some wonderful natural skin care solutions in the kitchen. This natural skin care recipe involves a gentle scrub for your face. Simply take some plain yogurt and then add ½ cup of oatmeal or cornmeal if you like, to form a smooth paste mixture. Now apply this paste to your damp skin for a couple minutes and then rinse with warm water. The reason you use oatmeal is because it softens your skin, and works very well for those that are easily prone to certain allergies and irritation from other products.

Another wonderful natural skin care recipe you can use, if you are looking for a mask for normal skin that smells as good as it will clean and freshen, try using a peach, mixed with some oatmeal. Quit Smoking and Quit Snoring

Posted by admin On March - 31 - 2008

Smoking has a whole range of dangers associated with it. Heart disease, lung disease, strokes and cancer to name but a few. But did you know it can contribute to snoring?

The actual mechanism is not fully known but can be surmised. This is because cigarette smoke is known to affect the respiratory epithelium (lining) of the larynx and bronchi. This can cause a malfunction of the delicate cells and hairs that line these passages which, in turn, leads to symptoms.

Even passive smoking can have this effect. Stale smoke can last for up to 2 hours after exhaled and affect the non-smoker.

Smokers often cough and feel congested. This is not only due to tar deposits in the lungs and airways. The airways themselves produce mucus in all of us, and this can be altered in the presence of cigarette smoke.

If excessive mucus is produced in the airways, this can lead to irritation, thickening and swelling of the airways including the respiratory passages in and around the voice box. Sinus linings can also be affected which leads to congestion and a stuffy nose.

Cue snoring!

In reality, snoring is no laughing matter. It causes much distress and heartache, especially for families. And, yes, snoring can happen in anyone, not just smokers.

But smokers, those that are overweight and those that lead an unhealthy lifestyle, are most prone.

The great thing about some conditions is that they can be helped or reversed. therefore – stop smoking! Eliminating the source of cigarettes smoke, as well as making you more healthy overall, will help to reduce your snoring and that of those who cannot avoid passive smoke.

You always hear that the main way to lose weight is to increase metabolism, but are wondering how this can be done. To increase metabolism you have to speed up the process your body uses to convert the food you eat into energy rather than fat. When you metabolism is slow you find it hard to lose weight because your body is not burning calories at a fast enough rate. There are several methods you can use to increase the metabolic rate at which your body works.

Always eat breakfast. Skipping meals actually slows down the metabolic rate of the body, so even if you are not hungry you should eat something in the morning. It also helps you from becoming hungry later in the morning and grabbing high calorie snacks to relieve the hunger pangs. Eat small frequent meals. Many diets refer to this as SFM and it does help the body to burn calories faster. Eating fruits, vegetables and grain in small portions at various points during the day speed up your metabolism and keep you from being hungry. Exercise. Doing aerobic exercises every day or alternating them with walking or jogging also helps the bodys metabolic rate to speed up. Tone up your muscles with weight training. This helps to release the built up energy from the muscles so that the body can convert more food. Exercising actually provides the fuel the body needs for the metabolism.

Drink lots of water every day. Everyone needs at least 8 glasses of water a day to flush out the burned calories from the body. This leaves room for the body to start burning more calories.

Vitamin B12 deficiency is most common in a vegan diet. Why? Because the most readily available sources of Vitamin B12 are in animal products, especially meat. The causes of deficiency can be avoided by supplementing daily with Vitamin B12 tablets. Even when you believe you maintain a carefully balanced vegetarian diet, Vitamin B12 is the one to watch.

When my husband and I were raw foodies, we believed a whole food diet would give us almost all the nutrition we needed. However we knew Vitamin B12 was the most vital supplement to keep us healthy in the long-run.

So what are the main causes of Vitamin B12 deficiency?

The main causes of Vitamin B12 deficiency fall into two categories. 1) Nutritional factors and 2) problems of absorption.

1) Nutritional Factors

Animal products are the only foods that provide significant amounts of Vitamin B12. The richest sources of Vitamin B12 are liver and kidneys. Fish, eggs, cheese and meat also contain good amounts. There are no significant plant sources. Some researchers claim to have discovered Vitamin B12 in algae, seaweeds and fermented foods such as tempeh – however recently this has been disproven.

People at risk of Vitamin B12 deficiency from nutritional factors include:

Vegans
A vegan diet must be supplemented with Vitamin B12. The body is able to store Vitamin B12 and also has clever mechanisms for recycling it when there is a dietary lack – however eventually it will become depleted. It is particularly important to take Vitamin B12 supplements immediately on converting to a vegan diet, because it takes some time for the intestines to become more efficient in recycling. Calcium may also need to be supplemented. This mineral is necessary for Vitamin B12 absorption and is often lacking in vegan diets.

The Elderly
There is a high prevalence of Vitamin B12 deficiency in the elderly. Poor diet will be a factor in many cases. There is also a decline in the aging body’s ability to absorb and store nutrients.

Alcoholics
Alcohol causes depletion of Vitamin B12 and other vitamins and minerals. Over consumption of alcohol will impair liver and intestine function resulting in poor nutrient absorption

2) Problems of absorption

Vitamin B12 is a large molecule and tricky for our intestines to absorb. The body has developed a sophisticated system for dealing with it. The stomach produces a substance called intrinsic factor that carries Vitamin B12 through the digestive tract for absorption in the lower part of the small intestine (ileum).

The mechanism for absorbing Vitamin B12 may be affected by a variety of factors:

Surgery to remove part of the stomach or the ileum may result in impaired Vitamin B12 absorption.
Insufficient gastric acid. Vitamin B12 in food needs to be cleaved from its carrier proteins by the stomach acids. If for any reason there is an insufficiency of hydrochloric acid it will not be available for absorption. This situation may occur for many reasons, including long-term use of antacids and certain pharmaceutical drugs such was Metformin (a diabetic drug).

Helicobacter Pylori bacterial infection of the stomach. This bacteria infects the stomach lining and may cause ulcers. Although H. Pylori infection is quite common and may cause no apparent symptoms it can prevent the production of intrinsic factor and thereby impair Vitamin B12 absorption.

Parasites such as tape worms.

Other chronic gastro-intestinal problems such as Crohn’s Disease.

What are the symptoms of Vitamin B12 deficiency?

A long-term deficiency of Vitamin B12 can be extremely serious. Vitamin B12 works closely with folic acid to produce haemoglobin in red blood cells. It also plays a crucial role in DNA synthesis and proper nerve and brain function.

Some early-warning symptoms of Vitamin B12 depletion are tingling or burning sensation in the hands and feet, numbness and impaired mental function. However these signs may go unnoticed before a more serious problem develops.

Lack of Vitamin B12 can lead to a blood disorder called “Pernicious Anaemia” which may result in blindness and permanent damage to the nervous system. We definitely want to avoid getting to this point before addressing the deficiency!

Natural Home Remedies that Deliver

Posted by admin On March - 30 - 2008

Thankfully, we do not take Murphy’s Law, too seriously. Imagine, dealing your sickness with this attitude: “What’s going to get wrong, shall go wrong”! Stoical, yes; practicable, no. Natural home remedies have maintained a balance between the excessive hypochondria and absolute unconcern, as far as diseases are concerned. Age-old wisdom has a habit of coming true, though, in some instances, nobody knows how. Natural home remedies-be it for acne, skin care, infection or cold or even chronic irritants like arthritis or headaches-work or at least, provide relief to some extent.

A German proverb says that cold and cough can be cured in a week with medication, it takes seven days, otherwise. Is it not natural, that cold and cough would have a list of natural home remedies to fall back onto? The symptoms are running or blocked nose, Sneezing, Sore throat, Congestion, Headache, Low fever with body pain, Loss of appetite, Lethargy and Insomnia. The remedy is taking half a teaspoon of ginger juice with half a teaspoon of honey, three times a day (morning, noon and night). In cases of dry cough, chewing on a small piece of fresh ginger with salt sprinkled on it helps.

Severe pain in the affected joints, inflamed muscles, ligaments and cartilage, movement of the joint becoming extremely painful, especially in cold, windy and damp weather-means it is arthritis. One raw clove of garlic every day is supposed to be a cure. Half a teaspoon of turmeric powder with warm water, taken twice a day, also helps cure arthritis.

“Not, tonight darling, I have a headache” is an endearing lie that has become an integral part of every man woman relationship, since Adam and Eve. However, headaches are not lies, if nothing they are frustrating as hell. The symptoms are pain tearing apart the head, forehead or the eyes, nausea, irritability and loss of appetite. Home remedy suggests a paste made from grounded clove, cinnamon and almond to be applied on the forehead. A quarter teaspoon of clove powder in one teaspoon of cinnamon oil, applied on the pain zone, also provides cure.

Acne, occurs due to a myriad reasons and likewise there are a host of skin care treatments. Green coconut water or mehndi, juice of basil leaf blended with Chandan paste are traditional natural home remedies. However, a regular use of TCA peels can really give you a skin, free from blemishes.

Natural Home remedies are here since ages. Would they have been, if they had not worked?

What to Expect After Breast Augmentation Surgery

Posted by admin On March - 30 - 2008

The results of breast augmentation are quite apparent immediately after surgery. However, you will need time to recover before you can start to fully and comfortably enjoy your new and improved bustline. The healing process is an important consideration when you are thinking about breast augmentation. A well-informed commitment to surgery will include taking account of the post surgical steps to achieving your body goals.

Breast augmentation entails the surgical insertion of breast implants, either silicone or saline, beneath your breast tissue and possibly even beneath the muscle tissue of your chest. The surgery is typically an outpatient procedure that lasts from one to two hours.

Depending on what you want for your body and what your physical form can accommodate, breast augmentation can increase your breast size by one or more bra cup sizes. Desiring a fuller bustline and a figure with more pronounced proportions are the primary motivations for women to seek breast augmentation. Reconstruction after breast surgery or injury, rejuvenation after pregnancy and nursing, and correction of breasts that have markedly differing sizes also are appropriate reasons for breast augmentation.

Your First Week After Breast Augmentation

Initially after your rodeodrivebreastaugmentation.com breast augmentation in Los Angeles, you will feel tired and sore for several days, but you should be up and walking shortly after surgery and doing routine acvitities around the house after 24 to 48 hours. Pain medication will be prescribed as necessary to help you with post-surgical discomfort. You will have to completely avoid strenuous activity and monitor for any post-surgical problems like extreme swelling or bleeding.

After a few days, your gauze dressings will be removed and your plastic surgeon may direct you to wear a surgical bra. At the end of your first week of recovery you could typically return to your job unless your occupation is physically demanding. Then your plastic surgeon would have to gauge your recovery and advise you on the appropriate time to resume working.

Your Second Week After Breast Augmentation

At about the 10 day point, your stitches will be removed. If you have been experiencing a burning sensation in your nipples, this can often persist through the second week. Although your fuller breasts are in place, they will remain sore and you should limit physical contact with them as you continue to heal.

Your Next Six Weeks After Breast Augmentation

Under the supervision of your surgeon, you will begin to resume your regular physical activities in the ensuing weeks. Breast soreness typically lasts for three to four weeks before fading. Swelling should also diminish during this period, except for perhaps minor swelling. The scars from your surgery will be pink and firm for roughly six weeks. It will take months for the scars to soften and lighten. They will never be completely gone, but the scars often will diminish to barely noticeable.

The recovery timelines described above are what you can typically expect after breast augmentation surgery. Individual cases vary depending on physical characteristics, overall health, and how well you follow guidelines for limiting strenuous activity. Although breast augmentation requires a moderate recovery time, many women are immensely pleased with the results and agree that the discomfort was worth the opportunity to change their body shape.

Hurricanes and Men’s Health Strategies

Posted by admin On March - 29 - 2008

If you are a single man you’ll need to have hurricane preparedness all figured out prior to the 2006 Atlantic tropical hurricane season. You need to determine if you plan to evacuate and which category of storms you’re willing to endure and stay home. If you fail to evacuate during mandatory evacuation periods and you find yourself alone, then you may also find yourself without power or water for three to four weeks.

You may also experience flooding in your area of or even inside your home and you must maintain your health. To do this you’ll need fresh bottled water supplies and it makes sense to get a portable generator so you can cook some of your food. You’ll also need gasoline cans in order to run your generator and you will not be able to run it all the time.

Proper hygiene will also be important you’ll need at least one gallon per day for yourself to drink and 3.5 gallons per for other bodily needs of water and hygiene. If you do not plan for such events then the hurricane will become a major problem for yourself and your health. You should also consider isometric and cardiovascular workouts, which you can do if you do not old home gym equipment.

Or perhaps you’ll like to buy some home gym equipment which you can utilize to take away some of the boring hours you will endure with no television set and no power. Please consider all this in 2006.

A Brief Overview On High Blood Pressure Medicines

Posted by admin On March - 29 - 2008

High blood pressure happens to be a widespread disease among people all around the world but we, Americans due to increased level of cholesterol, are more prone to this malady that often results in severe complications. There could be various reasons for why heart exerts more pressure on the blood flow that is popularly known as high blood pressure.

One common reason among Americans is widespread occurrence of high level of cholesterol. In case you discover yourself with this disease, you are needed to lay stress on dietary control. Life style changes greatly contribute in curbing hypertension. But a consistent rise in blood pressure must be treated by medications in consultation with doctor. There exist some over the counter medicines that you should strictly avoid in favor of prescription medications.

There are four common groups of high blood pressure medication that are as follows:

Angiotensin- Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitors

With the help of these medications, functions of enzymes that happen to bring constriction in arteries are inhibited. This constriction often happens to be a cause of hypertension. There could be certain side effects such as excessive thirst and loss of taste with intake of these inhibitors, but these effects last for only a few days. These are relatively newer drugs.

Diuretics

It is most common medication for high blood pressure. This medication works in two possible ways. When diuretics are taken with a mild dosage it assists in relaxing blood arteries. The other work performed by it is facilitating out flow of excess water and sodium through urine in order to lessen the amount of blood. The only side effect associated with this medicine is reduction in potassium level of your body that happens to be an essential element for the normal functioning of body. For that food rich in potassium could be taken in plenty. Doctors often suggest potassium tablets along with this medication.

Calcium Channel Blockers

This group of medicines is not too old, but their usage is gaining momentum. They affect blood pressure in a very different way. They usually tend to disrupt smooth inflow of calcium in body cells, thus reducing cells intake of calcium. With reduced calcium heart rate gets reduced easing pressure on moving blood.

Beta -Blockers

Medicines of this group directly cast their impact on nervous system by making brain give a retarding signal to heart. The heart rate gets retarded and in turn pace of blood circulation decreases. Thus hypertension gets reduced. This medicine is rarely prescribed to diabetics with hypertension.

These are some common medications that you should take in consonance with constant monitoring of blood pressure through blood pressure monitor equipments. Lastly, beware of one thing. Don’t overdose yourself with these medications, consequences could be disastrous.
