Transcendental Meditation

Posted by admin On June - 30 - 2007

The world has become a hectic place to live with fast food, fast cars and fast computers. Life moves at such a rapid pace that the elements that compose our lifestyles generate an abundance of stress that many do not know how to handle. One way to reduce stresses and create a more relaxed mind and a healthier body is through Transcendental Meditation.

The transcendental form of meditation is one in which the practitioner calms the mind in order to achieve a higher state of consciousness allowing for a greater flow of thought. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi founded Transcendental Meditation, often referred to as TM, in the late 1950’s.

The Maharishi decided to take his teachings on a world tour attracting many new people, even celebrities to take on this form of meditation. The long list of celebrities who have practiced Transcendental Meditation includes the likes of actress Heather Graham, Singer Mick Jagger, Director David Lynch, the late comedian Andy Kaufman and most notably, The Beatles.

Now what would attract such a long list of celebrities as well as over six million people to choose this form of meditation? Could it be the fact these people now live a peaceful more productive life? Could it be the vibrancy they feel day after day. Or, how about the increased stream of creativity attributed to transcendental meditation. Probably all of the above.

Transcendental Meditation not only improves your ability to focus but it stimulates creativity and works wonders for your physical health. It is proven that those engaged in regular practice of Transcendental Meditation have fewer medical problems than those who are not.

In fact, individuals in their mid-fifties who have taken on TM as their form of meditation have been known to have a biological age that is twenty years younger than their chronological age. You are now most likely wondering what it takes to learn the ways of Transcendental Meditation.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has created a seven step process of learning the proper technique of TM which includes two lectures, a personal interview with a qualified Transcendental Meditation instructor and four days of practice.

After learning the proper methods of TM you meditate twice a day for twenty minutes each session. Advanced methods include yogic flying when your energy is channeled creating a lift of your body, kind of like a frog hopping. It has been said that when 1% of the world’s population is practicing yogic flying that a greater state of peace will be felt world wide.

The ultimate goal of Transcendental Meditation is peace. Peace within ones self and peace around the globe. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has begun to construct peace palaces in one hundred US cities with 3000 more being built around the world. Here the use of Transcendental Meditation to influence cities and communities to a more peaceful lifestyle.

As chaotic as this world may seem it could be possible to eliminate the negativity in the world through a greater understanding of your own consciousness and a deeper commitment to a harmonious life. I have found that through the practice of Transcendental Meditation that path is clearly paved. Are you ready for the journey?

Fruits follow the blooming of the healthy plants like trees, shrubs and vines. They carry the seeds from which new generation of fruit-bearing plants will grow in favorable conditions. One of the best ways to enjoy these nature’s perfect gifts is – to eat them fresh and alone (without combining them with other foods or even eating them on top of other foods) since they are digested and utilized more rapidly than other foods. The only exemption seems to be citrus fruits, combined with nuts. Citrus’ high level of acid assists the digestion of fats in nuts.

The most important positive qualities and roles of fruits are listed below: fruits have a very valuable natural nutrient content (most of them are abundant in vitamins A and C, some Bs and E in seeds; they are also rich in minerals: calcium, magnesium, copper, manganese and some others) which may help to make our immune system strongerfruits may have cooling and calming effect on the body and nervous system which helps reducing stressorganic fruits are natural and healthymost fruits are juicy (high in water content, similar to that of the water content in human body); fresh and natural fruit juices are higher in vitamins and minerals than most other drinks available, they have cleansing effect and aid eliminationfruits are high in natural sugars (that makes them good substitute for highly caloric and nutrient-blank sweets which can become foundation for many health problems, so wide-spread in Western societies)fruits are low in fat, calories and sodiumfruits are also known to be high in fiberalmost any fruit can be dried and preserved that way for a longer period of timenature’s perfect foods – fruits are in addition vibrant in colors, they taste sweet and sometimes even have crunchy texture Fruits are at times also classified as:

sweet: dried fruits like apricots, bananas, figs, raisins, prunes etc.subacid: juicy fresh fruits like apples, apricots, cherries, grapes, mangoes, papayas, peaches, pears, plums and othersacid: several berries, citrus fruits, pineapples and pomegranates. Their high level of acid aids the digestion of fats. Every kind of fruit should be eaten when fully ripe in view of the fact that unripe fruits can be quite aggravating.

Take into account that on many, especially tropical fruits, different chemicals are used to keep the insects away for the duration of shipping or to speed up the ripening. Therefore, cleaning/washing (in particular) the store-bought fruits thoroughly (before eating them) is very important!

According to Dr. Elson M. Haas, “A diet of only fruit and vegetables for a week or two is a good way to realkalinize our body and blood, which aids detoxification and lowers blood fats.”

Dried fruits lose most of their water content during the process of drying. At the same time, the sugar content becomes concentrated. Eating too much of dry fruit might cause constipation. Hence, the best way to enjoy dried fruits is to rehydrate them in some clean, fresh water.

Weight Loss Supplement Hoodia Works

Posted by admin On June - 30 - 2007

Our society’s addiction to size 0 or less than 0 bodies have encouraged expansion of weight loss supplements worldwide.

Hoodia, another kind of weight-loss supplement, is receiving a lot of attention from the public with the spread of testimonies regarding its efficacy.

Hoodia came from a cactus plant in South India and have been found by scientists to decrease cravings for food and drinks of indigenous people who have sucked on the plant.

A local doctor of the Bucks County Clinical Research Center, Dr. Richard Goldfarb, was asked to research on the effects of hoodia dex-1-10.

The doctor shares his initial indifference to the project, arguing that his company has no financial interest. He continued by saying that from the very beginning, he was already resigned to the fact that the supplement would not work.

The findings came as a surprise for him as he found out that all of his 10 patients who have taken the supplement had loss an average of 10 pounds and about 3.3 percent of body weight during the 28 day experiment.

The subjects were asked to take the drug one hour before meals and were requested to retain their usual activities.

If asked about the effectiveness of Hoodia, Dr. Goldfarb, there will be no doubt as to his answer.

Yes, Hoodia works.

However, he reminded possible consumers of the supplement that Hoodia is not been regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. The only assurance is that the Department of Agriculture of South Africa gives permit to validate that the supplement is really primeherbal.com” target=”_blank hoodia.

What are the Ingerdients of a Cream

Posted by admin On June - 30 - 2007

When buying a cream we check for its action and properties. But do many of us know what the ingredients of the cream are and why it possesses such properties as nourishment, moistening, protection? …

THE BASE OF ANY CREAM IS EMULSION

Any cream has a base to which other ingredients are added. The base consists of a mixture of water and oil in a certain proportion. Therefore, there are two types of bases – “water in oil” and “oil in water”. It is difficult to define the type of the base in a cream by just looking at it, nevertheless, the following test can be made: put a bit of a cream into warm water. If the base of the cream is “oil in water” then the cream will not dissolve, and if the base is “water in oil” it will dissolve, especially if you shake up the cream container a bit.

«GLUE» FOR WATER AND OIL

Of course, to get a cream base, it is not enough to mix oil and water. To provide for its consistence special substances-emulsifiers are used.
(Amphoteric-9, Carbomer, Cetearyl alcohol, Cholesterin, Emulsifying wax, Lanolin, Lanolin alcohol, Hydrogenated lanolin, Lecithin, Sorbitol ether, Stearic acid, Tannin stearate).

MIRACULOUS AGENTS

Active ingredients are supposed to take positive effect upon skin. But if on the label of a cream or any other preparation there is a big number of the so-called biologically active agents (five, six, ten…) – vegetable and animal extracts, tinctures etc. – be careful! First of all, many of the ingredients from this category do not go with each other without producing side effects. Secondly, the majority of them do not produce the desirable effect and if they do, they must be in much higher concentrations.
Filming agent (polysaccharide group), water retention agents (high-molecular elastin and collagen) and skin cells functioning conditioner (tissular cells extracts) are wonderful agents for creams that do produce good effect.

VITAMINS

Vitamins are necessary to keep the whole body in good health. Yet multiple statements of researchers claiming that vitamins are good only if taken internally strike a warning note. It is also worth to mention that some vitamins can cause irritation of sensitive skin. Use of A and E vitamins (tocopherol or tocopherol-acetate) in moisturizers also causes doubts since their molecules are too big to penetrate into skin.
Vitamin A derivative. Researches allow to assume that vitamin A derivative – retinoic acid – can block ultraviolet impact upon skin and, therefore, premature aging.
Retinol is another derivative of vitamin A, which many of the manufacturers add to the moisturizers believing that on the skin surface retinol turns into retinoic acid, but in fact it does not happen.

TRANSPORT FOR ACTIVE AGENTS

These are the components that are added to creams to transport active agents into skin layers (liposomes, hydrosomes, noctosomes, sphingosomes), but their ability to penetrate into epidermis overcoming the barrier zone is very much doubted.

“ENEMIES” THAT WE CANNOT DO WITHOUT

That’s what the preservatives are called. Preservatives solve one of the most important problems – prevent products from going off. Preservatives can cause allergic reactions.
One positive effect of the preservatives is elimination of bacteria and fungi directly on skin. Without preservatives bacteria reproduce very quickly and, at the same time, break down the preparation. That is why we recommend you to be careful with preparations that say “do not contain preservatives”. Most likely they use essential oils instead of preservatives in the so-called natural cosmetics. If the oil concentration is not high enough – the cream will go off very quickly. But if a cream contains enough oils for its safe preservation, make sure you test it against allergic reactions. If overdosed, essential oils can cause irritation.

Of course, the world of cosmetic and anti-aging creams is fascinating and diverse. We did not cover even the smallest part of it. But coming back to the very beginning of our story about cream bases, we would like to draw your attention to the following: whatever agents are added in to a cream, do not permanently use oily creams (the base is “oil in water”). These creams contain abundant oily agents exceeding skin needs in them. They absorb badly, “block” pores and skin breath, overheating it. Even very dry skin needs, first of all, moisturizers but not oils. The same applies to aging skin that needs moisture most of all. Choose cosmetics from the point of view of their impact upon your skin.

The Sonoma Diet: A New Spin on the Mediterranean Diet

Posted by admin On June - 29 - 2007

The Sonoma diet has billed itself as the “most flavorful diet under the sun.” The Sonoma diet has been created to package and sell the benefits of the Mediterranean diet, using the principles described in the Lyon heart study.

Like the Mediterranean diet, the Sonoma diet emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains and nuts. In fact, it singles out 10 “super foods” based on recent scientific research suggesting health benefits of each of these foods. They include: almonds, bell peppers, blueberries, broccoli, grapes, olive oil, spinach, strawberries, tomatoes, and whole grains. The Sonoma diet also encourages the moderate intake of wine.

Like other popular diets, the Sonoma diet is structured in 3 phases. The first phase is very restrictive with tiny portion sizes to provide a fast initial weight loss. The second is a longer weight loss phase, with slightly larger portion sizes. The third phase is designed for weight maintenance, and is intended to be life-long.

The Sonoma diet book describes the diet and 3 phase structure, and provides a step by step guide with over 500 recipes. The recipes are very well thought out, tasty, and easy to cook. Because of the types of foods included in most recipes, it is not by any means a low cost diet, but the health and weight loss benefits may make the cost worth it. The online diet program provides more recipes, and helps by putting together printable shopping lists. Costs of the online program are $5 a week.

Overall, I think that the Sonoma diet is one of the better commercial diets. It is based on scientific research showing significant health benefits of the Mediterranean diet, and recent studies showing benefits of specific “super foods.” The recipes are healthy and tasty.

My only concern about the Sonoma diet for weight loss is that the 3 phase structure seems to be a gimmick employed by many popular fad diets. The very restrictive 1st phase is a weight loss trick, used by most diet gurus, to provide a very rapid weight reduction so that dieters will start talking about how much weight they are losing. I am disappointed that the author fell prey to this gimmick. The science of dieting shows very clear that this kind of “crash” dieting is not beneficial and contributes to the yo-yo dieting phenomenon.

With this criticism aside, I think that overall the Sonoma diet is an excellent weight loss program based solidly on the science of healthy eating. The whole family can enjoy the health benefits of the Sonoma diet.

Herbs for Emergencies

Posted by admin On June - 29 - 2007

When true emergencies arise, the best course of action you can take is to do some emergency first aid while someone is calling an ambulance. Though herbal remedies can be used for almost anything – including broken bones – there are times when modern medical specialists and technology are critically needed. You should never risk someone’s life in an attempt to treat emergencies using only herbal remedies, particularly if you’re not fully aware of exactly what you’re doing.

With that said, there is one particular herb that should always be on hand in your kitchen or herbal medicine cabinet: Cayenne. Yes, regular old cayenne pepper like you can buy in the spice rack or vegetable isle at any grocery store. It’s a good idea to keep a spice shaker full of cayenne on hand, plus cayenne supplement pills too. Why? Because cayenne can be used to stop bleeding and shock, and this is extremely helpful with most emergencies.

Cayenne is also known as Capsicum. The loose powder can be sprinkled onto a bleeding cut, wound, or injury and it will stop the bleeding. This is fitting for general, non emergency bleeding too. If you’ve tried applying pressure to a bleeding cut and it just doesn’t seem to want to stop for instance, just sprinkle cayenne powder all over the bleeding area and it will stop. The cayenne powder does not burn or blister either. It may feel a little hot, but that’s about it.

Cayenne can also stop internal bleeding, plus it can be used to treat shock. It’s also excellent to have on hand to use for anyone who is allergic to insect stings. To treat any of these conditions with cayenne, simply sprinkle some of the powder into a small glass of water, or break open one of the cayenne capsules and dump the powder from that into the water. Then have the affected person drink it.

Cayenne is also quite useful to take when you’re taking infection fighting herbs too, because it helps stimulate the body into healing faster.

For acute burns, use either apple cider vinegar or plain old fashioned black tea. The apple cider vinegar should be organic if at all possible, and you can soak clean cloths in it to lay onto the burned areas, or simply pour the vinegar over the burned areas.

Plain black tea bags should always be on hand for use with burns too. If you have tea already made and cooled, simply soak clean cloths in the tea and place them onto the burned areas of the body, or pour the tea directly onto the burns. Alternatively, you can soak fresh teabags in water, and apply those as packs directly to the burned area. The tannin in the tea bags must be released first though, and this is done by soaking the bags in water. If you use hot water the tannin is released faster, but you should allow the tea to cool to at least room temperature or cooler before applying it to a burn. This remedy works amazingly well for severe sunburns too.

How Your Diet Can Cause Bad Breath

Posted by admin On June - 29 - 2007

One of the most common factors for cause of bad breath is the type of food that is eaten. The bad breath caused by the food can be formed in two ways, one is in the mouth by the bacteria and other is by the food that goes into the digestive system.

In a majority of the cases, the food particles that remain in the mouth start decaying and decomposing. In the mouth, certain anaerobic bacteria break down the protein present in that particular food and produces sulphur compounds. The sulphur compounds that are produced, mix with the mouth air and produce a foul or bad smell. In dairy products, like milk, the bacteria in the mouth break down the lactose protein present in the milk and release amino acids, which turn into sulphur compounds creating bad breath.

Food like garlic, onion and cabbage have very strong odor. When the food goes into the stomach the digestive system breaks down the food into compound molecules. These molecules of the food with strong smell are absorbed by the bloodstream and carried to the lungs. The molecules mix with the breath that is exhaled from the lungs and creates bad breath. The bad breath that is created in the mouth is generally temporary whereas the effect of bad breath from the food that goes into the digestive system continues for a longer duration until it is flushed out of the body.

A high protein or high fat diet and lack of carbohydrates also cause bad breath. Due to lack of carbohydrates, the body utilizes the protein and fat to provide energy that would otherwise be used by carbohydrates such as glucose. When the stomach breaks down the fat and protein in the body, it produces a chemical called ketones which is released through the breath. Since ketones have a bad smell, breath smells bad.

As food plays a very important role in creating bad breath, people with bad breath problems should avoid food that triggers the problem and maintain good oral hygiene all the time.

Things To Think About When Thinking Of A Tummy Tuck

Posted by admin On June - 29 - 2007

Exercise and dieting is the hard way of losing way. You will have to undergo strict discipline and many will quit at some point during the journey. Some people will be wildly successful with their diets and exercises and will reap the desired benefits. Although dieting and exercising is hard, when done properly, it is the best way of losing weight while maintaining a good and balanced health. But losing a lot of weight can sometimes come with an ugly side effect for some people – saggy skin.

Saggy skin happens when the skin loses its natural elasticity and cannot tighten itself around a body that has lost a lot of weight. This leaves some successful dieters in a dilemma – all the excess weight is gone, but now there is excess skin to deal with. For this, there is a surgical solution popularly known as the tummy tuck.

A tummy tuck will surgically attempt to correct the saggy skin problem by stretching the skin over your abdomen and trimming away the excess. Once the excess skin is trimmed off, the remaining skin is sutured into place and the end result, after recovery, is a tight-looking abdomen.

Do take note that a tummy tuck is a major surgical procedure. If undergoing a tummy tuck is a choice that you would make, then the first thing to consider would be your overall state of health. Go through a thorough medical check-up to make sure that you do not have health conditions that could complicate surgery and recovery.

You would also need to understand that tummy tuck recovery takes a while. Don’t expect to be showing off your new body a couple of weeks after surgery. Full recovery from a tummy tuck will range from a few months to a year. As with any surgical procedures, there will be scars left behind. Depending on how your skin heals itself, the scar could be hardly noticeable or could be quite prominent. The surgeons do make sure that whatever scars left behind could be well hidden with proper clothing as the main incision is usually done below the bikini line.

Pregnancy could undo the effects of a tummy tuck because the skin will stretch again and there could be a good chance of it not springing back into place if saggy skin was a problem for you to begin with.

Differences Between Atkins Diet and the South Beach Diet

Posted by admin On June - 28 - 2007

Many critics would say that to follow the Atkins Diet will in the long term do more damage to your health than good but the followers of Atkins swear by the fast weight loss and renewed energy.

What exactly is the Atkins Diet? Well in 1972 Dr Robert C Atkins introduced his Diet Revolution to the masses as a low carbohydrate, high protein, and high fat diet. It went against the ideas of much of the medical community but Dr Atkins hadn’t just dreamt up the diet. He based his finding on years of research with his patients following low carb diets.

If we go way back in time what did our ancestors eat? When humans first evolved on the planet what was there for them to eat? Certainly no fast food outlets with their 24/7 drive through or vast supermarkets filled with every kind of food known.

We were hunter-gatherers. Basically we ate what we hunted and gathered. Large mammals would be hunted, killed and eaten along with berries, nuts and some edible herbs. As we had evolved over millennia to be nourished by what was available to eat so our bodies had adapted to handle the foodstuffs of the time.

Our bodies are adapting still to try and get the best nourishment out of today’s diet but this adaptation is a slow, slow process. We were not designed to eat refined carbohydrates or sugars. Our salt intake was never meant to be as high as it is. We are basically omnivorous and were made to eat meat and vegetables. This is the diet from which we find it easiest to gain nourishment. This is close to the Atkins Diet.

Dr Atkins found that his patient’s health improved following his diet. Could it simply be that a return to the diet it was designed for is the best for the human body?

People have a right to choose to be vegetarian or to consume vast quantities of fast food but do they then have the right to complain that they don’t feel well? If we design a road car and then try and take it off road should we be surprised that it gets stuff after a while?

The Atkins Diet works that much is known and as to long term problems well its has been around since 1972, how much longer does it require to be tested for before the medical profession accept it?

South Beach Diet – a phrase that is commonly heard but is seldom understood. This is just another truth behind the emergence of another diet. So what’s the big deal?

Well, the South Beach Diet is considered as the “biggest thing” that the slimming world has ever introduced. But where exactly did the South Beach Diet come from? Here is the answer: the South Beach Diet was actually formulated by a person named Dr. Arthur Agatston after the realization that some of his patients were having little success by using conventional low carb – high fat diet plans like the Atkins diet which is also popular around the globe.

Dr. Arthur Agatston, being a cardiologist and knowing the condition of his patients, had the main concern of finding a diet that will promote a perfectly healthy heart. Finding no such source for that diet existed, he decided to formulate his own diet plan and that was to become known as the South Beach Diet.

According to the testimony of Dr. Agatston, since the introduction of the South Beach Diet, many people who followed the diet actually lost an average of 13.6 pounds almost double the 7.5 pounds lost by those who use the strict “Step II” of the American Heart Association (AHA) diet. Along with that, it was also found that when following the South Beach Diet many people showed greater decreases in their waist-to-hip ration and triglycerides, and their good to bad cholesterol ratio improved even more.

Generally, the South Beach Diet, in a word, is not considered as a low carbohydrate diet as it is commonly associated. It is a fact that the idea behind the South Beach Diet is to lose weight in a way that is healthy for those who follow it.

The South Beach Diet, unlike the low carbohydrate diets usually encourages the dieter to choose between the good and the bad carb foods. As such, the dieter is required to eat more fruits and vegetables and even wholegrain bread in contrast to other low carb diets. So, in the South Beach Diet, there is more of a sense of “yin and yang”, that it is more balanced than any other low carb diets in the whole world.

Therapists, physicians, acupuncturists, massage therapists, body workers and energy workers need to be interviewed and checked out just like your roofer!

I don’t know about you but finding a good roofer is might-near-impossible.

Psychological outcome research has shown that half of the therapists make us better and the other half makes us worse.

This means we need to choose wisely. You do not need to continue to pay someone if you are not making dynamic progress toward your goals. If the roofer does not fix your roof you do not continue to pay him money.

The outcome psychological research shows that the technique does not matter, the therapist is the important factor. If he or she is open, loving, caring then he or she can help you feel better. If they are uptight and nervous, they will make you uptight and nervous. I would think that this applies to all holistic practitioners and not just psychologists.

As sensitive people we definitely need to feel safe and secure with any person we are working with. We have a responsibility and right to check therapists, physicians, massage therapists, acupuncturists, body workers and energy workers out very carefully before we put ourselves in their office.

It is our responsibility as clients and consumers to pick and choose based on our own needs and desires.

Even if you get a good recommendation about a person, check them out by calling them up and interviewing them.

Your checklist:
1-What does his or her voice sound like? It is inviting, warm, loving?
2-How accepting are they toward you? Are they open or judgmental?
3-Do they relate equally to you? If not, keep checking around until you find someone that respects you and acknowledges your strengths.
4-How do you feel after talking with them on the phone? Do you feel comfortable? Do you feel hopeful? Did they rush you? If so, then they are anxious, forget them.

If they pass the phone test. Then set up an appointment and continue to check for the above things in person. If they pass the first psychology session test then it is up to you to be open and trust them enough to let them help you.

Therapists and practitioners are not perfect, they make mistakes, just like everyone else. The best ones don’t pretend to be perfect, they know they are human.

What you want to look for during your sessions:

1- How present are they? Do they really listen to you and receive you?
2-How relaxed are they are in their body? Are they breathing?
3-How secure do they seem to be when you get scared, frightened or anxious? If you scare them, they cannot help you.
4-Do they had the information and knowledge to help you calm down your nervous system?
5- Do they know what they are doing?
6-Do you usually feel better and more hopeful after each session?
7-Do they let you express your deepest desires and fears without questioning you?

Remember, it is up to you, the client, to pick and choose someone who is capable and loving.

When you decide that someone is not good for you, you can leave at any time for any reason. Do not feel guilty and take care of the therapist. You are paying them for a service and they need to deliver.

For more about how to live a guilt free life listen to the audio tapes series, A Natural Process for Opening the Heart, over and over again. Dr. Jeanette explains the difference in energy between real feelings and mental judgments that cause you to feel bad and guilty.

Remember you do not owe your physician or therapist anything. They need to help you grow and become healthy or you need to find someone who can.

If you really want to change and grow, pick a therapist who will teach you how to let go of judgmental energy so that you can grow up and achieve self esteem.
