Our Family Found Many Benefits Of Protein Supplements!

Posted by admin On October - 31 - 2005

For the past 12 years or so we have often had various large containers of protein powder in our kitchen cupboards as my husband has used the extra protein in his diet to help him gain muscle mass when he is working out. By accident we soon found it beneficial in the summer time, when it’s often so hot he loses his appetite and doesn’t eat much, he found drinking a nice cold protein shake when he was too hot to eat to help him keep the pounds from melting off his body.

For the first few years his protein powders were ‘his’ and his alone, but in 2002, after I discovered healthier ways of cooking and baking using protein powder mixes in place of white flour in many recipes for low carb, whole grain hot cereals, muffins and desserts, he often found he was going through his protein powders at twice the rate he used to!

As our kids got older and got more serious in their involvement in sports their interest in nutrition and body health gained momentum. This summer we have 2 high schoolers who are currently in the school’s weight lifting program three mornings a week. When they get home at 7:15 am they are starving. What I found interesting was their bodies were craving high protein foods. The first two weeks of the season we went through 54 eggs as they craved this high protein, easy to prepare food and would use up to 5 eggs at a time to make scrambled eggs and omelets in addition to asking me to please keep hard boiled eggs on hand for snacking.

We soon found our niche for their work out mornings, which now include a protein drink after their workouts instead of a heavy meal. My son loves the chocolate, peanut butter versions but my daughter tends to prefer a lighter, more fruity drink. One of the simple blender drinks she whips up includes the following;

1 c cranberry juice (we use Cranberry Crystal Light)
1 c cleaned strawberries
1 c ice cubes
1/2 c protein powder (vanilla or unflavored work well)*
1-2 T Splenda or sugar
*optional – yogurt, orange juice and various other fruit like a banana or diced mango

Put into a blender and blend. All amounts are based on your own taste as she doesn’t measure, she just adds approximately the amount posted. *( totalnutritionsource.com/shop/whey_protein you can find these protein powders here)

An unexpected bonus to adding protein supplements is the ability of our bodies to heal themselves. We knew that our bodies use protein to help heal and build muscle, but it also includes bruising! The day before yesterday my son went to a sports facility where he spent the day rock climbing, driving go-carts and other activities. He came home with a large goose egg and bruise on his leg, however this morning we were happily surprised to see the bruise is almost completely gone. All that remains is a slight shadow. This, in under two days. The added protein in his daily diet is definitely helping.

A Botox Face Injection Will Ensure No Cloudy Days

Posted by admin On October - 31 - 2005

An ophthalmologist-approved procedure, the botox injection has been safely used for over 10 years. It has been effectively used for wrinkle therapy since the early 1990’s with no serious side effects. Botox injection face will relax the muscles that create wrinkles, thereby lessening the appearance of laugh lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines. If you’re considering a botox face injection, you will not be able to frown after it’s done, as the lines that are created by the action of frowning itself are eliminated! Over the years, your facial muscles produce wrinkles that are sometimes unwanted. There is a protein toxin produced by the clostridium botulinum bacteria and botox injection eliminates this toxic build up. Just so you know, if you decide to have a botox face injection, botox is injected right into the muscles that are responsible for creating wrinkles. It is effective in deactivating the muscles that produce those wrinkles. Botox injection face usually lasts for three to six months and you then can return for a follow-up injection. After several face treatments, some doctors have reported that the injection lasts longer, often for several months.

The most common complication is temporary drooping of the eyelids, but since the botox compound is used in extremely small amounts, it doesn’t spread throughout your body and you can usually return to full activity right away. Botox can be used on just about everyone from people who have neurological diseases, pregnant women and those who are breast-feeding. The injection causes only mild and temporary discomfort, and you may find mild swelling that usually subsides in 4 to 24 hours.

Another cosmetic treatment that is in huge demand lately is the removal of unwanted facial and body hair. If you spend a bit of time surfing the web, you’ll be able to find some hair removal experts that should be able to refer you to a practitioner in your local area. Available in most civilized countries, permanent hair removal home canada, United States, Britain and South America is where the procedure is done most often. Of course, with the advent of technology, there are many incredibly new and exciting products on the market. You can find personal appliances that will do permanent hair removal very effectively, and will eliminate the necessity of visiting someone who specializes in this procedure.

These appliances make it possible to permanently destroy the hair and any possibility for its regrowth. Laser hair removal cannot support the claim of permanent hair removal, and unless an expert applies the laser it can sometimes be a “hairy” experience! Electrolysis can be painful, and there’s never a good place on your body to insert a needle. There is usually redness and possible scarring that goes along with this procedure. With depilatories, shaving and waxing these are only band-aid approaches that you will need to keep doing over and over to see results. Spend some time and investigate the numerous options available to you for permanent hair removal home Canada.

Whatever route you decide to take to look younger longer, there are always decisions to be made, Since botox injection face treatments usually last between two to four months. You’ll find that every three months is an appropriate time frame to have this done. A botox face injection is a safe procedure that is being applied more commonly every day, and if you are experiencing a large number of wrinkles on your face, you may want to seriously consider this procedure. Also, be aware that there are literally thousands of different creams on the market and all claim to be better than the other, so you’re advised to do some research on the internet and learn more for yourself about looking younger longer.

5 Tips for Dealing with Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain

Posted by admin On October - 30 - 2005

Do you suffer from rheumatoid arthritis and have had to quit taking your prescription pain medication because of harmful side effects? Are you looking for natural alternatives to help you deal with the pain that you face doing everyday tasks? If the answers to these questions are yes, then the following tips for relieving rheumatoid arthritis are just what you have been waiting for.

1- The most important thing that anyone can do for their bodies is to exercise. This includes those who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis as well. However, not every exercise is suitable for sufferers of arthritis pain. The exercises that are done need to be good for the muscle, while not being damaging for the joints. A great exercise for those who are living with rheumatoid arthritis, in fact for everyone, is walking. Walking is a good low impact activity that does not put unneeded pressure on the joints. Other alternatives to walking are biking or walking in a pool.

2- The topic of exercising as a way to relieve the pain of arthritis leads into another tip. It is very important to incorporate balancing exercises into your daily routine. For example, water aerobics and Tai Chi are two types of balancing exercises. The reason for these types of activities is that balancing is a very effective way of strengthening without undue pressure on the joints. However, if the joints do begin to hurt, the activity should be stopped. If the pain continues more than a couple of days, it would be wise to consult your physician.

3- If you are suffering from the pain of rheumatoid arthritis, it is a good idea to concentrate on your overall body weight. If this is an issue for you, speak with your doctor about ways that are suitable for you to take it off. When you are dealing with any type of arthritis pain, the extra weight makes it worse. Consider this; there is about 30 pound of force placed on the knees for each ten pounds of weight that is being carried. Therefore, the ability to lose ten pounds will effectively result in 30 pounds of force being lifted from the knee.

4- Some rheumatoid arthritis sufferers find that applying hot or cold compresses can help to alleviate some of the pain that is associated with their condition. When using this method of pain relief, there is a simple rule to remember, ice reduces pain while the heat will loosen the joints and boost blood flow.

5- This next tip, while not an actual treatment option, is very important to your emotional well-being. Educate yourself regarding your condition, this will improve your attitude as well as eliminate the element of surprise. Many people are afraid to ask questions when they are faced with a debilitating illness, they just wait for the bad stuff to start happening and many end up depressed. Don’t be one of those people, ask your doctor, ask friends, do research, learn as much as you can about rheumatoid arthritis so that you can better deal with it.

Free Healthy Eating Plan For You

Posted by admin On October - 30 - 2005

This is the free healthy eating plan you’ve been looking for. So you’ve come to the right place.

My family has been successfully following a simple healthy eating plan for years and we all enjoy remarkable health.

Our focus is to keep it simple. It’s this simplicity that makes it not only healthy but delicious too. Let’s start with what we don’t eat.

We don’t eat sweets, processed foods, white flour, white rice, fried foods, processed oils, snacks, fast food or any kind of junk food. And we don’t drink soft drinks, fruit juice, coffee or alcohol.

For those of you wondering what’s left, my free healthy eating plan will teach you everything you need and want to know.

Your focus should be on natural whole foods.

For example, we eat lots of vegetables and fruit, especially the colorful ones. The trick is to get at least nine optimal servings every day. To do this you must have some at every meal.

Fresh, especially organic, is best when you can get it, but if fresh isn’t available then frozen is the next best thing.

Because of the processing, we don’t drink milk, but do include dairy in our diet. We eat low-fat organic plain yogurt, kefir and cheese, plus some no-salt organic butter.

Olive oil is our main choice for cooking and salads.

Cheese (in moderation) is generally cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, or feta and we never go overboard with it. Fresh fruit and raw nuts work great for sweetening plain yogurt and kefir.

We use only whole grains. This includes our bread (mostly sprouted), cereals, rice and pastas. Once you get used to it, whole grains have a much better flavor and offer way more nutrition.

Sprouting the whole grains before they’re used increases the protein and digestibility. Be sure you use products with no added sugars.

Eggs are a staple in our home. We eat them in all sorts of ways; scrambled, poached, hard-boiled, egg toast, omelets and egg sandwiches. With our large family we go through about as many dozens of eggs in one week as we do loaves of bread.

Although we don’t eat meat every day, our main choices are fish and poultry. Both offer a great source of lean protein and the fish has the added benefit of being a rich source of omega 3 fatty acids.

Even though we eat well, we still take whole food supplements made from human foods. These natural supplements ensure we’re getting all of the essential fatty acids, amino acids, fiber, vitamins, minerals and the phytonutrients we need to stay well and healthy.

There you have it – my family’s free healthy eating plan. All you need to know now is to drink lots of water and, if you want to lose weight, burn more calories than you eat.

Combine these suggestions with regular exercise and you’ll feel like a whole new person in no time at all.

So, who would you like to be?

Over the past 18 years, Michael Byrd has helped thousands of people all around the world to look younger, feel better and have more natural energy. Trained as a Physical Therapist, he discovered how to use special

How Much Water Should You Drink Per Day?

Posted by admin On October - 30 - 2005

I’m always amazed at how many people seem to know the answer to this question yet in practice they fail. Everybody I’ve talked to seems to know that 8-12 glasses of water a day is the recommended standard. But if I ask them how many glasses of water have you consumed today? The answer is usually none. Or the other standard answer at a corporate environment “does coffee count?”

While 8-12 glasses of water is great for the average sedentary person, many of us are fitness conscious or on the pursuit of some type of bodybuilding physique. With that in mind, I think the new standard for us should be 1-2 gallons of water a day.

As a bodybuilder, you are putting much more nutrients, food, supplements, and other stuff into your body. What your body does not use, it must rid itself of by any means necessary. Usually it does this via water. So drinking plenty of water becomes a necessity. Increasing protein puts a strain on your body and drinking lots of water can keep things “moving.” Creatine monohydrate supplementation requires a lot of water. Creatine is all about cell volumization. Making sure your cells are completely hydrated helps with the volumization process. NO2, a hemodilator, requires water. Many other supplements require water as a transport and a flushing method.

The side effects of drinking too little water are an excess buildup of certain chemicals. Creatine can leave behind some buildup that overtime, becomes a bit hard to pass. Putting such a strain on the body is also self-defeating. But don’t get me wrong, it’s not just about Creatine and NO2. It’s about making sure you are hydrated.

Being properly hydrated has it’s benefits other then just the flushing methods and cell volumization discussed above. Your state of alertness is affected by your hydration levels. Performance in the gym by a hydrated body is enhanced. Your body is roughly 70% water. It makes sense to hydrate it. Drinking water is not just for hot days. It’s for intense workouts in the gym. In fact, being hydrated has that perpetual pump that is so sought after.

There can be too much of a good thing. Drinking water to excess leads to water intoxication, referred to as hyponatremia. As you consume water, blood plasma increases and dilutes the salt content of the blood. While this is happening, you lose more salt by sweating. Consequently the amount of salt available to the body tissues decreases and over time, the loss interferes with brain, heart and muscle functions. Water intoxication is more commonly found in endurance athletes.

Drink plenty of water per day, but just keep in mind, there can be too much of a good thing. Being properly hydrated is necessary for optimum performance in the gym and for keeping your body performing well.

Both men and women share a common concern on removing unwanted hair. However, they have different body parts which need to be free of unwanted hair. For example, it is socially acceptable for men to have a mustache, but not for women. It is also socially acceptable for men to have hair in the underarms, but, again, not on women. One major area of concern for women today is their bikini line and so they are always searching for the best pubic hair removal product or treatment.

Aside from the fact that pubic hair on the bikini line hinders women from wearing sexy two-piece bikinis, it is also a big turn-off for their partners. Unfortunately, though women are convinced of having a clean bikini line, most are hesitant to go through a pubic hair removal routine because they are not sure if the process would be actually successful and effective.

If you are considering undergoing treatment for pubic hair removal, here are some tips which you can do to prepare for an effective and successful treatment.

1. Materials – Prepare all the necessary materials when planning to use the method of shaving for pubic hair removal. You will need clean, fresh sharp razors, shaving cream, small scissors, some soap, a loofa scrub as well as baby oil and some lotion. Make sure that you buy and use only the products of brands that you can trust.

2. Position – Sitting upright on a chair with your feet raised up above your waistline is the best possible result for shaving for pubic hair removal.

3. Small Trims – It is not advisable to go right ahead and shave your pubic hair. For pubic hair removal, always start by trimming your pubic hair short to make the whole process of shaving easier and cleaner in result. To trim, hold up a handful of pubic hair and trim inch by careful inch.

4. Warm Bath – A warm, hot bath following your trim will make your pubic hair soft and easy to remove later on. It will also add to a more effective or clean pubic hair removal.

5. Shaving Cream – Generously apply a shaving cream of your choice on the pubic area. Apply the cream right after your warm bath for better results. Other alternatives to shaving cream are shaving gel, shaving lotion or a generous coat of petroleum jelly. Again, make sure that you only use products and brands that you can use. It is also recommended that you test these products on a small area of skin to find out if you have any allergic reaction to the product. If you, after a few minutes, notice any itchiness, redness or rashes, perhaps it is best to use another brand or product for your pubic hair removal.

6. Prepare to Shave – Now that you have performed the above-stated preparations, you are ready for the major step in pubic hair removal. Of course, you can always choose to give it a design that you fancy. Most women simply want to clean up the whole area. Make sure to slowly and carefully shave to avoid cuts. It is not advisable to run the razor more than three times over the same spot as this will only irritate the skin. Stretching your legs far apart will give you access to areas that are normally hard to reach. For first time shavers, it is best to shave gradually. Allow your pubic area to adjust to the process of shaving.

7. Exfoliation – Once shaving is done, exfoliation on the pubic area is advised. You can use a light soap. Avoid using one that is too strong as this might irritate the skin especially when it is soaped right after shaving. Again, for this part of your pubic hair removal, use only brands of exfoliants that you can trust. You may use the softer kind of loofa or body scrub or sponge. Exfoliating after shaving will help remove the dead skin that has been covered for a long time by your pubic hair. It will also clean up the pores and therefore, help prevent skin irritation. The only important thing when you exfoliate is to make sure that you do it gently and softly.

8. Moisturizers – It is good to moisturize the pubic area after all the shaving and the exfoliating involved with pubic hair removal. You can moisturize your pubic area using baby oils. Aloe Vera is also one favorite alternative for moisturizing as this has natural skin-healing abilities. Use only moisturizers that are light, fragrant-free and color-free. These kinds of moisturizers don’t have added chemicals for fragrance and coloring that may be harmful for the recently-shaved area. Mild baby powders may be applied after moisturizing.

9. Cleanliness – Now that you have carried out pubic hair removal and are cleanly shaved, it is best if you maintain a good hygienic routine. This would include the daily cleaning of your genitals and pubic area with feminine wash to keep your private area clean, sweat and odor-free as well as to protect it from irritation from wearing tight underwear or jeans.

10. Regular Shaving – Now that you’ve started with your pubic hair removal practice, it is good to keep up this routine regularly. Regularly shaving will prevent the pubic hair from growing too much which will then require you more time for trimming. Avoid stubbles of pubic hair as this can cause itching and discomfort. Needless to say, the more itchiness, the higher that possibility of you scratching it and the higher the possibility of it being irritated then.

Proper pubic hair removal is nothing more than these ten simple steps away. The important thing to keep in mind with every step is to perform it carefully as your genital area and your pubic hair is one of the most sensitive parts of the body. Also, the use of trusted products only could never be stressed highly enough. Where pubic hair removal is concerned, it is always better to be safe than sorry.

A Guide To Crohns Disease Symptoms

Posted by admin On October - 29 - 2005

Crohns Disease Symptoms

According to studies and surveys performed by the National Institutes of Health, many patients are unhappy with conventional crohns disease treatment and more than half seek alternatives.

To be sure, crohns disease symptoms are difficult to live with and affect the quality of a person’s life, so it is understandable that those who suffer from the condition would seek alternatives, particularly when traditional therapies are ineffective or cause unwanted side effects.

The specific crohns disease treatment depends primarily on the severity of symptoms.

Crohns disease symptoms may include: abdominal pain, diarrhea, loss of appetite and weight loss. Primary symptoms may lead to complications including abscesses, ulceration of the deepest layers of the lining of the digestive tract or abnormal openings, called fistulas, in the intestine.

There may be intestinal bleeding and, if combined with recurrent diarrhea, may lead to vitamin deficiencies, malnourishment and anemia.

Initially, when symptoms are mild, crohns disease treatment may include an anti-diarrhea medication such as Imodium A-D, which is an over-the-counter product that is designed to stop diarrhea and reduce abdominal pain.

When crohns disease symptoms are moderate to mild, aminosalicylates or corticosteroids may be prescribed. If neither of these is effective or if stopping corticosteroids causes symptoms to return then prescription medications that suppress the immune system may be prescribed.

It is theorized that this inflammatory bowel disease is caused by a dysfunction of the immune system. The theory is that the immune system overreacts to bacteria that normally lives in the bowel and attacks it in the way that it would normally attack invading bacteria or infection, resulting in inflammation.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen, are not recommended for crohns disease treatment, because they have been linked in clinical studies to flare-ups or worsening of crohns disease symptoms. Thus, corticosteroids are the most common treatment choice to control inflammation.

Corticosteroids are not safe for long term treatment, however, because they may have serious side effects including high blood pressure, osteoporosis and increased risk of infection. When used for extended periods of time, some people become steroid dependent, even though the corticosteroids themselves become ineffective after long term use and symptoms return.

When a crohns disease treatment plan includes medications to suppress the immune system and control inflammation in that way, there is a greater risk of infection. Obviously if the immune system is suppressed, it cannot fight infection effectively. In addition, there is a greater risk of cancer, because the immune system normally attacks and destroys abnormal cells that, if left unchecked, may eventually become cancerous.

Aminosalicylates relieve crohns disease symptoms in some cases, but cannot be used by certain people and may reduce white blood cell counts; once again, lowering a person’s resistance to other infections and diseases by impairing the immune system.

Prescription medications for crohns disease treatment are obviously lacking, both in effectiveness and safety. Scientists continue to research new drugs.

When crohns disease symptoms are severe, surgery may be recommended to remove the affected portions of the bowel. This choice for crohns disease treatment is extreme and is understandably avoided by most patients. However, those who have had surgery no longer suffer from symptoms, which may improve quality of life.

There are numerous support groups both for people who are considering surgery and for those who have had surgery, since certain adjustments and lifestyle changes may be necessary at least immediately following surgery.

A recent study (August, 2006) found that crohns disease treatment was inappropriate 52% of the time. A group of gastroenterologists, surgeons and general practitioners evaluated the treatment plans of their colleagues for appropriateness.

For those who suffer from crohns disease symptoms, this may be discouraging news. Many people choose self-treatment with aloe, slippery elm, mangosteen or other botanicals.

While the effectiveness of these natural products has not been proven, there is evidence suggesting that they may effectively reduce inflammation and relieve pain. There is also some historical use of slippery elm and mangosteen as digestive aids among native peoples. Mangosteen, in particular, has been used extensively throughout Asia to relieve diarrhea, pain and inflammation.

Mangosteen has been scientifically proven to be a natural anti-inflammatory and a natural pain reliever. Many researchers, doctors and scientists believe that natural anti-inflammatories may be gentler to the body, safer overall and more effective, because they target several inflammatory responses; synthetic anti-inflammatories, by contrast, may target only one molecule.

Natural anti-inflammatories do not hamper the immune system, as do corticosteroids and aminosalicylates. In any event, relieving inflammation can relieve crohns disease symptoms.

While decisions about a crohns disease treatment is a personal choice, those who suffer from the disease should advise their doctor about natural products they are using, including mangosteen, particularly when using prescription medications at the same time.

This is simply because botanicals and herbals may sometimes interact with prescription medications.
